Zoe you and me we've been hanging out now,
Ever since we were kids just kicking around this town,
Zoe you know me and I don't back down,
I know what I want and I think I've found it.

I want you to be my girl,
I want you to be my girl,
Zoe you're so supernova,
Zoe you're so supernova.

Zoe you know me and I'm on the right track,
Going to get out of here and never come back,
Zoe you know me when I'm on the attack,
Ain't no use in fighting back.

I want you to be my girl,
I want you to be my girl,
Zoe you're so supernova,
Zoe you're so supernova.

Supernova,
Supernova.

When I'm low well I know who to call,
When I think I'm about to hit the wall,
Zoe baby I know you would never ever let me fall,
Every time I turn around baby there you are,
Just shining down on me like a blazing star,

Yeah, that's what you are
Your a blazing star,
That's what you are,
That's what you are,
That's what you are,

Zoe you're so supernova,
Zoe you're so supernova.

(repeat)

Supernova,
Supernova.

How could someone who wrote "Empty" write something so inane?  If he were a football player I would recommend immediate enrollment in the concussion protocol.
Lotsa hate for this one, I just bumped to an 8 tho. Hmm.

Needs a segue into Steve Forbert.
only a little above average
A big 1 from me. Normally I give his songs a 3 or so.
Did someone with bad taste kidnap a family member of his and force him to record this??
not what I would have expected if I plunked some cash for the latest ray release...
His financial planner made him do this. He even sat in for the handclaps.
Not many artists that I've rated a 10 for one song and a 1 for another.

But this is a 1 = sucko-barfo for me.

Imagine meeting someone that had never heard of Ray before, and playing this song for them. Don't think you would be met with approval...
I really like RLM but this song seems silly and way out of place
Oh no, Ray, please, no ...
kinda cheesy—who cares—I'm into it.. {#Cheesygrin}
I think Ray is campaigning for some cheesy iSomething commercial.
Sounds like Fleetwood Mac imho
Didn't recognize this as Ray LaMontagne so, you can't accuse me of bagging on it cause it's atypical of him when I say "Not Good". More importantly, why am I hearing this and so many other songs so repetitively lately? Bad Bill. With billions and billions of songs out there I need more surprises...not more of the same.

Edit: 9/11/14 First off...I did not say "Not Good", I said "P-U". Realy, did this get edited?  Nextly (yeah, it's a word, now), I am going to do a 180 and say that I actually like this. I realize now that I looked to see who this was, was surprised it was Ray and was put off a bit. On hearing it again I find it catchy, as in "with a hook". Still say Bill is becoming too repetitive.

Cheers.

Bill!
We need to hear MORE barking!
Hahahahaha!!

Nice touch.
Seems like this song is getting dumped on mostly because it's not the Ray LaMontagne we've come to expect--not because it's a crappy pop song, though those guys have waded in, too. Maybe this is his "Beck" phase: taking on other genres because he can. He gets props for that. Besides, it's a fun song.

Yeah, the explosive death of a star. Great metaphor to use for a perky love song!

You must not have heard Liz Phair's "Supernova".
On some songs, Ray LaMontagne sounds like a grizzled old soul that just crawled out of from the Bayou.  Then, on this song, he sounds like a young Peter Gabriel.  Huh.

Just when he learned to breath in sync with the lyrics, he wrote this throwaway piece. In spots, he advances up the ladder towards Bob Seegar territory, only to fall back again. Not unlikable, just a piece of fluff, quite like many of my high school reports - "could do better if he tried harder".
I like this fluff {#Daisy}

I gotta confess: when I was in the other room and the chorus kicked in, I thought I was listening to a commercial for Subway sandwiches. It's the cheesy organ, the drum and guitar riff stolen from a 70s Eagles song.

But it's cool that it really moves you! Maybe I'll eventually stop thinking of Jared and $5 foot-longs...
LOVE your dog barking AND your opinion about the song!

Copy that!

I have never been a fan of Ray LaMontagne, but I really like this. It's catchy. Love the guitar riff. Has a certain 60s sensibility.

Pop, PSD!
I don't think that Ray knows what a supernova is. A supernova is an exploding star. He's comparing his girlfriend to a star that blows up and takes out a whole solar system. Maybe she has a wicked temper?

What he said.
Except I never liked Ray at all.
And the Cowsills never made me nauseous.

Ray hanging with a bud:

Ray:  We need one more song.  Any beers left?
Bud:  Saw something on the tube about a supernova.  Here's the last one.
Ray:  Sounds cool.  What's a supernova?  Damn, this isn't a twist off.
Bud:  Dunno.  Sounds cool, though.
Ray:  Yea.  OK.  What should the song be about?  Where's that bottle opener?
Bud:  Just sing "supernova" over and over.  That's good enough.
Ray:  Nah.  I think there's a rule that songs have to be about something.  Just like there should be a rule that all beer bottles should be twist off.
Bud:   Hmmm.  How about you want some chick to be your supernova?
Ray:  That'll work.  Then I'll sing "supernova" over and over and over and over.
Bud:  Cool.
Ray:  We lost that damn bottle opener.

I like funny criticisms, but in Ray's defense I don't think the lyrics are a big deal.  This song is growing on me.  7 -- with potential.  This is for shure not a throw away effort.

This song confuses me regarding the artist.

...as if he's playing around in the studio to try to expand/evolve his sound...not sure it works.
had to raise this for the second time, first from 5 to 7, now to 9. seems to have new qualities each time i here it.

What ick said.
This song confuses me regarding the artist.
Complete fluff.
This has a pop sound resembling Bob Welch, Ebony Eyes..sentimental lady etc
Bubblegum pop hilarity --> working to lift rain blues, ergo 7 for now ...
Big Ray fan - -but want to hear this again b4 rating...
It seems that Ray has been listening to Van the Man!
Big Ray LaMontagne fan here so reserving judgment until I hear this puppy a few more times in hopes it'll grow on me...
Too repetitive.  Let me repeat that.  This song is too repetitive.

I've loved this every time I hear it - radio or RP!

And I don't care if it's being played a lot on commercial radio. Wouldn't be the first time a decent song was.

LOVING This upbeat Montagne!!!!

Quite the sunny tune for the usually gloomy Ray LaMontagne. It has a throw-back 70's sound to me.
He could belch a song and I would love it!!!

I thought the same before I heard it 3 or 4 times. Give it a chance.

Yeah!... what Bill said.
Eeeeuuuuuw.
I really do not understand why we are hearing this on RP. Don't rate this at all.

Heard it this morning on another station.  Sounds like just another mediocre pop song, not the more classy songs we are used to from this fine artist.
