Everybody's wonderin' what and where
They all came from
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be

Some say once gone you're gone forever
And some say you're gonna come back
Some say you rest in the arms of the Savior
If in sinful ways you lack
Some say that they're comin' back in a garden
Bunch of carrots and little sweet peas
I think I'll just let the mystery be

Everybody's wonderin' what and where
They all came from
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be

Some say they're goin' to a place called Glory
And I ain't saying it ain't a fact
But I've heard that I'm on the road to Purgatory
And I don't like the sound of that
I believe in love and I live my life accordingly
But I choose to let the mystery be

Everybody is wondering what and where
They all came from
Everybody is worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
I think I'll just let the mystery be

No. That cover is one of the least needed, least wanted covers ever. And worse, this here number is purely delightful and would be diminished by your suggested pairing.

Play this song after (or before) Maxence Cyrin's cover of "where is my mind"...

Anything covered by Natalie Mechant receives new life.
Have you run across any covers of "Wasteland of the Free"?

Or....play Iris DeMent, for both, please.

Same. I love 10,000 Maniacs and I like this cover, but Iris DeMent's original is something else. This would be better if it didn't have David Byrne's guest vocal diluting the purity of Natalie Merchant's voice. Still, give me Iris every time.

This just made me want to play Iris Dement singing this song.
time for PSD!  ugh...

Same here.

Gave it a 7 just because of the lyrics and deserves to be heard.
once I heard Byrnes' struggling voice = sucko-barfo

Two annoying voices that sound worse to me every time I hear them. No issues with the songs or music though.

David Bowie was Buddist. Didn't seem to compromise his artistic integrity.
Two magic voices
Interesting segue. Poi Dog's leader Frank Orrall's stage presence always reminded me of Byrne. Interesting version, kinda grows on you.
c.
Good GOSH, Ms.Merchant was SOOooo good inna band setup. Solo, don't really care for much. Coupla good pcs, that's it. IMO, of course! Odd, how the diff is so vast.

This is fine. Iris is too, but oh that cutesy twang gets on my nerves after a while.

Please play the original and this.
I’ve never heard this and it’s great to hear Byrne singing along!
This just works

I have not heard that version, but can we Dial-the-DJ that way and Demand our prefs?

I think both versions are great. A great song is a great song. Love the message.
Why, oh, why do you play this version? It pales in comparison to the original.  And highlights how lame Natalie Merchant is.

Speakin' da troot to power!

Iris Dement's version if you want to play this tune please....
I love both David Byrne and Natalie Merchant, but the negative comments below are pretty entertaining. Keep 'em coming.
As someone lucky enough to be at the open mikes in KC where Iris first played this song, it's kind of crazy to see how far it's reached. But I have to echo others here. Though Byrne and Merchant are wonderful musicians, and their taste in songs is obvious, this performance is cringeworthy.

11 votes (and counting) for bringing the h8.  Someone's proud.
Oh no - love this song, both musicians, but not all at once in the same song. This version is best left unplayed.
Campfire songs says it all...
Pretty underwhelming, there is potential, but there is definitely no magic here.
Two astounding annoying singers in a duet! Joy!
David Bryne's singing could probably destroy Buddhism, if only they knew...
I suppose if he aims vaguely at a note then there's a chance he will hit it for a proportion of the time.
Please play the original instead of this.
Would much rather hear Iris's version.

Not sure which of these it is:
1) Natalie Merchant has accidentally, repeated stepped on an ill and dying cat on stage or
2) David Byrne is singing with them.

I think both.  Ew.

Wow, what a great mix up. Love it. In the chorus I though DB was channelling Bob Dylan for a bit there. Really strange.

And then two voices I would have never put together!!  His edge and her clarity.. Great. it works.

Agree. Sweet and fun sing along.

The original is a whole lot better
This is very, very cool.
