I know you wanna leave me, but I refuse to let you go
If I have to beg, plead for sympathy
I don't mind, 'cause it means that much to me
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Well I heard a quiet man is half a man, with no sense of pride
If I have to cry to keep ya I don't mind weepin'
If weepin' gonna keep ya by my side
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me, don't you go
If I have to sleep on your doorstep all night and day
Just to keep you from walkin' away
Let my friends laugh, for this I can stand
'Cause I wanna I keep ya, yeah, yeah, I can
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me, don't you go
I got a love so deep in the pit of my heart
Ev'ry day it grows more and more
I'm not ashamed to come and plead with you, baby
If pleadin' keeps you from walkin' out the door
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'
Please don't leave me, don't you go
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me, don't you go

Likely, but someone should have brought that up 43 years ago.  This was actually a Top 40 hit in the states, perhaps because the B-side: 'Dance Little Sister" was a better tune anyhow.

There was a decent mid-70's compilation released that included their best of the 70's (so far).  But I always thought "Dance Little Sister" was the weakest part of it, and would have preferred they substituted the Motown cover.  But then, they would have had to pay more royalties, and that would never fly.

Image result for rolling stones made in the shade vinyl

Wasted cover. The Stones don't bring anything unique to the party. And nothing and no one would ever top the Temps' classic. I half suspect the Stones just needed to fill out the album.

Totally agree. Dullsville. Lazy.
most excellent      (can't top the Temps  : )
They like it so much that they covered the Temptations again on Some Girls with "Just My Imagination".  If I had to pick just one then I'd keep "Just My Imagination".  Really like the dualing guitars of Keith and Ronnie.

I really liked this album when it came out (I was in junior high school), and I can remember actually putting a quarter in a jukebox at the local pizza parlor to hear some of the singles from it.  It still sounds just as good now as it did then.

Yes.  I'm pretty sure Marvin Gaye never recorded a version of this song; if he did, he certainly did not have a hit with it.

Helluva combo with the Tops.

Fun version, but Marvin Gaye makes this song Godlike.

Nope. People say that when it's a black artist, and/or especially when it's a deceased artist. I really think this version is better than Gaye's. It rocks way better as only the Stones can.

The Stones version is just the right amount of deference to the original, combined with their inimitable rock and roll swagger.

Maybe they're both 10s?!  It is possible, you know.
Following the Four Tops. Outstanding.

I don't think Marvin Gaye had ever recorded a version of this tune; he certainly never had a hit with it if he did.  The original, hit version of the song was done The Temptations.

Not necessary. They didn't bring very much to the song.
