I'll bet if you had been there for this show, your perspective would be different.
This is groovy!
its good to remember them as a jam band
as a kid I thought these guys were hopelessly dated, hippy dippys
for some reason I have returned to them
they really were wonderful

supposed to? it was the sixties man...it was about doing what you weren't supposed to do

In the sky...
4 and 20 blackbirds baked in or no?
72 Lima Peru, in a small cafe, a couple of other gringos sat down with us,  it came up in conversion if we had ever tripped, and yeah we had.  Turns out they said they were the chemist for the Airplane and they had a Visene container with liquid of LSD and made us some blotter on the napkins on the table. Got to make it to Urambama, on the road there was the kid in the front that would let the driver know when one  of the two back tires was over the edge. Made it there, stayed with a tienedo owner, turned us on to chica and let us sleep in his daughter's room that had her name spelled out in Pepsi caps in concrete. Next day we dropped, and made the climb, when we got to the ruins the stones were huge and pink. wasn't expecting that. Got to be at the summit of an Andean mountian in cowboy boots. On the way down we ran into local people on the way back to a festival that we had no idea that this was their  special day. When we got back  to the village we were going to get on the bus that runs  one way each day and back the next. Was going to get on but they were loading an eldery Inca lady that had fallen off a bridge on her face so we wern't sure we could deal with it. But then a car pulled up with a couple of gringos they and said "need a ride"? It was a guy named Jack Frost and his lady, really.  The reason for the post, you still out there?

Wow.

The are plenty of musicians who "play creative, free flowing, trippy music" that is not formulaic and allows for experimentation; you just seem to be deliberately unaware of them.

So... was Grace implying that Jorma Kaukonen should have put more concentration into his guitar work or his giving head?
I finally got those flashbacks they warned us about.

The lights are down low....everyone is warm and in the groove....happiness in the pipe all around....that haze hanging low....Mmm Mmm Mmmmm. Thanks Bill! Thanks Airplane! Thanks Donovan!

Fat Angel to Sweet Jane: nice segue.
I did not know of the link between Jefferson Airplane and the movie All That Jazz.
Now this is the best way to start a Friday morning at work.
Just need to add the rest of the album to the RP playlist.

Wow.
I love how they manage to capture Donovan's distinctive breathy syncopation while infusing it with that ELECTRIC feel of classic JA...

I believe I went through this once shortly before it closed. The thrill was definitely gone.

This JA track isn't too bad, even though I suspect it'll wind up noodling for too long.

As a 13 year old I spent 8 hours in there with my father and 6 younger siblings waiting for Mom's very-delayed flight from Ireland to arrive. We had driven up from Ohio to pick her up. Back in 1968 give or take a year.

Saw Donovan in concert a few weeks ago and he played his Fat Angel. While doing so I had the Airplane version playing in my head at the same time. What a track!  Picture the twirlers dancing about in days of old.

I was busy with a tricky cooking task when I heard this playing in the other room, wanted to turn it up; sounded to me a lot like Caetano Veloso's trippy exile period. Then I finally checked and found it was even older and trippier JA! These guys sure did TripTunes so well!
Some songs should only be experienced live....this is one of them!!!!! Please no more......ever!!!!!!
This is as good a live recording as it gets...and shows The Airplane at their San Francisco best.
