It's more salsa than samba. I'd just categorize it as "salsa jazz".

Latin jazz was “el sonido nuevo”, the new sound, back in '66.
Who ever thought that Latin music would eventually degrade into reggaeton.
I only wish the nuevos artistas latinos listened to this music…

Surprised to see such a low rating for a phenomenal sound that has stood the test of a sounding great a half a century later. I was 10 years old when this music would have been around and I can completely imagine how if I was only a few years I would have grooved to this. A very solid 7 is the least it should get, IMO.

What the younger audience may not grok is that these sounds were created by mixing individual musicians work. The MOOG of Wakeman and Emerson was still years in the future, and drum machines further out than that....

Something like a lost art, lamentable; but that is progress...not better or worse; simply different.

I think this piece is very uplifting this sunny Sunday morning Thank You!  (I flashed back to hearing Lionel Hampton on the Ed Sullivan Show or some such, the man was amazing! Xylophones almost always click a positive vibe in my mind : )
