When you wake up it just might be
The first of many blows that you'll receive
Today what we need

We want what we need
We need what's above
We're always reaching
For something above
But we've got enough

All of the haves they have not
Not got half of what we got
They want more I just want you
Better believe it I beg of you

Why don't you know that I know
When you're hurting after all these years I know
Like Siamese twins
I can feel every one of your senses
We're just the same
Unconditional love easier said
Said than done

We want what we need
We need what's above
We find ourselves reaching
For something above
But we've got enough

All of the haves they have not
Not got half of what we got
The ceiling's so high
When your down on the floor
It's easy to be wanting
To be wanting more

All those years ago
When we could have met
So hard, oh, hard not to regret
But I know we got
A lot of life, life to live yet

We want what we need
We need what's above
We find ourselves reaching
For something above
But we've got enough

All of the haves they have not
Not got half of what we got
They're wanting more I'm just wanting you
Oh better believe me, all I'm begging of you

All of the haves with all that they do
All of the haves they ain't got you
They ain't got you

Good comment. He's hit or miss for me but he's got a distinct voice and knows how to use it. So not sure he sounds like an average dude at the local bar.

Agreed, the emotion he invests (at times) is rarely equaled in a bar setting. Mostly because of the words he wrote. Even his comments between songs in concert  are just so caring and human. I'll forgive the occasional crack in his voice as I'm sure most of his fans here do.
Not my album
This is the only song sounding acceptable into the wild

I have a sneaking suspicion that much of the dislike for Eddie derives from the fact that he just sounds an average dude singing down at the local bar.  For me, that's a plus.  I like the fact that he sounds like a real person and not produced into oblivion like so many commercial acts are.  Perfection isn't perfect, sometimes the appeal lies in the faults....

I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole album yet,
but I suspect it will be a mediocre release just like the last Pearl Jam album.

I give a solid 7 points for this particular piece.
Eddie is great forever
Exceptional!! First time that I have heard this song. Thanx RP!!

Very well stated!!
Any chance of some Vs. / Vitalogy era PJ please, Bill?

Corduroy / Better Man / Rearviewmirror / Dissident etc.
Surly he could have used google before releasing the album.
So excited to hear this! Solid 8.  I can't get enough of him.
First hearing... at least an 8!
