Some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh but I know love as a fading thing
Just as fickle as a feather in a stream
See, honey, I saw love. You see, it came to me
It put its face up to my face so I could see
Yeah then I saw love disfigure me
Into something I am not recognizing

See, the cage, it called. I said, "Come on in"
I will not open myself up this way again
Nor lay my face to the soil, nor my teeth to the sand
I will not lay like this for days now upon end
You will not see me fall, nor see me struggle to stand
To be acknowledge by some touch from his gnarled hands
You see, the cage, it called. I said, "Come on in"
I will not open myself up this way again

You see, the moon is bright in that treetop night
I see the shadows that we cast in the cold, clean light
My feet are gold. My heart is white
And we race out on the desert plains all night
See, honey, I am not some broken thing
I do not lay here in the dark waiting for thee
No my heart is gold. My feet are light
And I am racing out on the desert plains all night

So some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh but I know love as a caging thing
Just a killer come to call from some awful dream
O and all you folks, you come to see
You just stand there in the glass looking at me
But my heart is wild. And my bones are steam
And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free

I'd love to hear this song of his on here
I swear I hear traces of U2 "With You or Without You."
Lyrics  almost like Leonard Cohen
Whoa...intense!
Ballsy move to start off with a quote from one of the most iconic songs in the popular music cannon. He then takes it in his own direction and creates something new and compelling.  Hats off sir.
Real drums would have raised this song up significantly
I swear this in Daniel Lanois whenever this track comes on. Going to have to check who produced this. Love this song.
Wow the more I hear this song the more I love it.  Thank you RP!
this song take you there
The magical effect of this song that's professed below escapes me.

9>10, can't stop listening to this song.  Thanks RP.

Me too!
There is something so magical about this track.
this song is about a caged animal that we keep in a zoo

I quite like this but the programmed drums could have done with a bit of variety.

I don't know how he did it when he recorded it but I've seen him play this song a few times live and the drums and synth sounds are all played live, not programmed. The repetitive effect is fantastic, especially in contrast to the story-telling lyrics. Of course, the cannabis I pretty definitely partook in probably helped!
Moved to a 9 just for the lyrics. Wow.

Thanks for playing something that's brand new to my ears

Amen to that.

Another 4 chord song.  Trouble is, since I realised 'Let it Go' from Frozen was the same (thanks kids...) that's all I can sing to any 4 chord song now....

More proof that there's more music in the southland than anywhere else in America

Yeah, bro. "Some (Johnny Cash) say love is a burning thing, that it makes a fiery ring." Love is a cage. And it kinda is.

Lovers, parents, siblings, children, in-laws, close friends.  I think almost all of my relationships are on very good terms, but that's not my point.  You're locked into those relationships for life, through anger, vengeance, distance, death, history, self-abuse, suicidal depression, and whatever life serves up next.

If you "escape the cage" by writing them off, you have broken a bond that cannot be repaired.

maybe it's my current mood but this is surely resonating with my spine right now. 7 > 8
That drum machine pretty much ruins this song
A new find and a new favorite.
So beautiful.  Ethereal.  Well done.
Instrumentals want to be happy and singer won't allow it. Love the contrast.
I heard "some say love," and all I could think was, "is liiiiiike a riiiiiiverrrrr thaaaat drooooowwwwns the tennnndderrr reeeeddd. . . ."

Ha yeah, it takes quite a dark turn at the very end there
Any song that if you close your eyes and it makes you feel like your flying is def a 10 in my book.
Still love this...  The texture and his vocals are striking.
And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free.

WTF?
Interesting 'sound'.   Made me sit up and listen.

Bits and pieces made me think of numerous artists I enjoy.
Immediately runs to Search box in Spotify "P" "h" "o"....
Am I the only one who thinks he's a Vic Chesnutt soundalike?
Always like Phosphorescent.
A Mixcraft masterpiece! Radio Shack reverb effect makes him sound as if he's singing into his laptop in his living room. The laptop seems to be playing the rest of the instruments; a kind of pseudo Moby but slower, making it 6 minutes of boredom...

hearing this from another room, i initially thought it was Willie Nelson doing an odd cover of this with Johnny Cash lyrics inserted. Crazy idea but i listened more and found decent lyrics...especially the last verse. 7 to start and it could go either way in time

Muchaco
I fucking love this and it’s the first time hearing? new ears? hmm
At first I was thinking, "Wow! An Arcade Fire song I actually like!" Nope, haha.
That drum machine is very annoying
What I love most about RadioParadise: getting surprised by artists I never heard of (living in Europe) getting mixed by all time classics....

Thanks!
And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free
Love it.  One of those 5 star tracks that I've missed since I stopped listening to anything but RP a few years ago.
Is this one of these Twin Peaks hallucinating dreams? The lyrics seem.. ermm.. transcendental..

Like it though! Solid 8.
Never heard that before, starts with a 7!
We know that it’s really a rose, an endless aching need
Love to see this song here!!
