His body is a Gelson's
Her soul, the fallen star
At midnight, twice a week
She comes, she leaves
And no one's hassled her so far

The courtiers have arrived
In nail polish, in tailored slacks
Reformed past all recognition
Resplendent in donor class panache

It's a scheme to enrich assholes
What the godhead had in mind
When he hid here such revelations
As only singers could describe

Mahashmashana
All is silent
And in the next universal dawn
Won't have to do the corpse dance
Do the corpse dance
Do the corpse dance with these arms

The one about the country's boyfriend
That he never, ever would live down
Must not have made it to the angels
Who passed the holy Roman noses 'round

His pale bullets found your bloodline
In a midnight-blue Cayenne
She is patient, the act of creation
May one day produce a happy man

Shaken like a pawl fly
Obscene as a lick
Love's the birthright of young people
And she ain't leaving without his

Mahashmashana
All is silent now
And in the next universal dawn
Won't have to do the corpse dance
Do the corpse dance
Do the corpse dance with these arms

He spoke into a hot mic
He sang like a bird
He hadn't had a single drink yet
There's no mistaking what you heard

A perfect lie can live forever
The truth don't fare as well
It isn't perched on lips mid-laughter
It ain't the kind of thing you tell

Like there's no baby in the king cake
Like there's no figure on the cross
They have gone the way of all flesh
And what was found is lost

Yes, it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is

I think you and others might read the lyrics and think on them before trashing.  I find this track  rather...compelling...

A song can have great lyrics and still suck.  This is one of them.

Egads,

Please stop is more often than not what I comment about such comments.   Jost poke the magical psd and leave the rest of us to our happy wistful moments. To me, this is a very interesting song.  It's passionate pop art, like a fine Josh Ritter after perhaps one too many shots of absinthe.
I really want to like this, but as of now I don't. As William said, maybe it will grow on me after a few more listens.

Yes, very bombastic but in a good way.
Egads,

This gets worse each time I listen to it.

Please stop.

May we all always be swinging for the fences. :)
This is just bad, gets way too much play!
Gotta be on of the lowest rated songs
Don't really know whether to cry or ahhh.....puke

I don't think so.

I've never seen a song posted with absolutely no ratings before. How am I supposed to know what to think?!

The best thing to do is vote 1. That way you can be in the cool kids club and hate everything.
Happiness and joy are so last century. Misery is what's selling these days in the groupthink crowd these days.

My thoughts exactly. The problem is that it’s over 9-minutes long!
William must really like FJM right now. He plays it daily over and over it seems. Used to never hear FJM on here but now to daily?!? Let’s tone it down a bit.
Father John is swinging for the fences on this album. I'm loving it!
I'm going to allow for the fact that some people like this before I say how much I don't like this.

Maybe one day it will grow on me. For now it sounds like pretentious sludge, sorry

Not really fond of this song. It sounds like he's singing an instruction manual at me.

More like a psalm, which are musical.
Mahashmashana....

There are better ones from the Padre, for sure, especially the one where he runs over a rattlesnake.
Brutal.

Give it 10.  That's what I did.

It's a 4 (barely) - I hope that helps?

The title of this song (and album) reminds me of mashed bananas!
Love Father John Misty, reminds me of David Ackles.
Yes, it is, yes, it is, yes it is 10!
I'm coming around on Mr. Misty. He always seemed like a joke, but maybe the joke is on us.
Bump
Wow !

Yeah, I can hear that too. And also I think George was able to say more with less. 😎

Awesome, sprawling, epic song.

Harkens an Elton John orchestral 'folk' voice. Hope to hear more.
Hearing George Harrison….?
That sax solo is epic. Great song.
